Our Mission

The Department of Fine Arts offers a B.F.A., a professional degree, in Studio Art. The department is committed to providing it s students with the opportunity for an engaged life in the arts. To that end, the studio curriculum encourages students to become proficient in the basic techniques and conceptual framework of major traditional and emerging art mediums, while the concentration area encourages each student to develop a unique voice in the medium of choice. The art history curriculum develops students' analytical and verbal proficiency while informing them of the history of their chosen discipline. Students become conversant in issues in contemporary art through coursework, visiting artists and field trips. Graduates will possess a cohesive body of work grounded in technical skills and fueled by conceptual sophistication that will enable them to join the community of professional artists.
